Giveaway: Steps of Faith DVD

First things first……click on the ^^^^Steps of Faith Youtube Clips^^^^ and enjoy 🙂

We, as a family, are always looking at ways of eliminating the secular and moving towards movies that we do not have monitor first.  Nowadays, people put out films, and they can be geared towards children.  What you have to realize, most people do, is that they sneak in something (anything) inappropriate.

Now sad that we are so accustomed to little “slights” of things that we see it as the norm.  A swear word, immodest clothing, intimate scenes, violence…..all in the name of “entertainment.”

We are thrilled to add another family movie to our collection.  This film focuses on faith, purpose, and relationship.  It stars Charles Malik Whitfield, Chrystee Pharris, and Irma P. Hall.

About the Movie

This film is a light-heart dramedy about Faith Houston.  She is an accountant, who is directed by God to move to a small town to work on Hippotherapy farm helping children.  This young lady is mocked by her family since she does not have a rapport with children or animals.  She is also, not, a devout Christian.  Faith decides to follow her heart and move after she encounters several challenges.  She finds herself at the farm, in the horse stalls, shoveling manure.  Faith cracks under pressure and leaves after a child is almost injured.  She begins to question whether or not she heard God’s voice or not.

Paul, Apostle of Christ Review

Image result

PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST is the story of two men. Luke, as a friend and physician, risks his life when he ventures into the city of Rome to visit Paul, who is held captive in Nero’s darkest, bleakest prison cell. But Nero is determined to rid Rome of Christians, and does not flinch from executing them in the grisliest ways possible. Before Paul’s death sentence can be enacted, Luke resolves to write another book, one that details the beginnings of “The Way” and the birth of what will come to be known as the church.

Bound in chains, Paul’s struggle is internal. He has survived so much—floggings, shipwreck, starvation, stoning, hunger and thirst, cold and exposure—yet as he waits for his appointment with death, he is haunted by the shadows of his past misdeeds. Alone in the dark, he wonders if he has been forgotten . . . and if he has the strength to finish well.

Two men struggle against a determined emperor and the frailties of the human spirit in order to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spread their message to the world.

Here is the website to view the trailer(s):
I have been excited about this movie since I saw the trailer.  Jim Caviezel is one of my favorite actors.  It is not because he played Jesus in the Passion of the Christ (though WHOA wasn’t that a movie…..that part where he is a little boy, running through the alleys and he falls and hurts himself…then you see Mary yell “Yeshua” and run to Him to comfort Him….oh, my mama heart strings).  Honestly, it is because of his strong faith in Jesus, and the fact that he has adopted three children, from China, and they all had a form of cancer.  Adoption is so incredibly close to my heart, especially, special needs adoption.  I’m also a fan of his films 🙂
Anywho, this will be a great addition, once it comes out, to add to our movie collection.  We are slowly moving away from secular films into films that are uplifting, Biblical, and wholesome for our whole family to watch.
I encourage you all to get out there and see this film!  You won’t regret it!

The Star DVD

The Star

I love this movie……I was able to take ALL my kids plus my youngest son’s biological brother and sister.  Most small kids worm and have the attention span of a gnat.  These kids never moved.  They sat, mesmerized… would see their eyes light up and then hear those sweet giggles, in the dark.  It warmed my soul.  My other younger children asked questions because this perspective is unique…coming from the animals.  The dialogue was awesome and I’m THRILLED to be able to watch this movie and listen to the soundtrack (mind blowing) as much as we want….I’m actually anxious for my husband to watch it LOL

Please, take the time to check out the links, below….listen to the soundtrack and prepare to be amazed… will be glad you did!

Book Review: Always Fall Forward

I was anxious to receive this book, to review, because the movie is *such* a hit with my family.  I have 4 sons and 3 of them love sports (the fourth is only 4), so my hope was that my husband would interact with the boys because, he too, is a sports fanatic.  What a good way to bond, dig deep in the Word, and relate about similar “sporty” analogies.

One phrase that stuck out to me was “Make your mistakes at full speed.”  I tell my kids, often, that I would rather than try 1000x and fail then to never try at all.  They are so stuck on perfection and not screwing up, but that is not life.  Life is full of “making your mistakes at full speed” and then learning from them…..from there, you get better, you get wiser.

I encourage you to check out, not only the movie Woodlawn, but to read this 52 week devotional….whether you have children or not, there is so much that can be learned through life lessons from the field.

To comply with new regulations introduced by the Federal Trade Commission, please mention as part of every Web or Amazon review that Tyndale House Publishers has provided you with a complimentary copy of this book.

Rose Book of Charts, Maps, & Timelines Review

When I chose this to review, the reason why I wanted it, was because I homeschool.  I’ve been homeschooling for about 17 years now.  My kids, now, range from 22-3 and studying the Bible is always a priority on our to do list.

Let’s face it, though, sometimes when you are a kid…..the Bible can be boring.  It can drone on and on (the Book of Numbers……)….you haven’t gotten to a point where the verses and the stories leap off the pages.

My oldest girls have always devoured it.  My youngest daughter…well…she is getting there and my boys….well, its a struggle.  They do it and sometimes, when they have been particularly salty that day, I’ll pick a small book of the Bible to write.  Now, when that happens, I get flooded with questions like “what is this word, what does this mean, did this really happen, wow mom did you know this?”  I love it.  What was a poor choice and a discipline ends up being a good conversation and the kids can meet the Living God.

One year, I bought a Temple book so we could recreate it.  Little did I know that the pieces were the size of a snowflake….all tiny, all fragile, and none were the same.  That led to an intense try and then we all went a bit psycho.

This Rose Book of Charts, Maps, & Timelines was just what I was looking for.  It is full of colors and pictures…the area where it talks about Jesus is all bold and in red.  It is eye catching and my kids love it.  They can take it and relate what they are working on, in their history book to what was going on in other parts of the world.  There are 250 pages of history entertwined with more history and current pictures mixed in with drawings of the past.

My kids LOVE history but they never paralleled history with Jesus’ time.  For some reason, that set that time apart and then history happened in the like 40s.  I kid you not.  They also think I lived next door to Laura Ingalls :/  Whatever.

This has worked across the span of all our kids and I do have some with learning and cognitive disabilities.  Even those kiddoes can grasp the concept and I think a lot of that is due to the striking colors (I’m a sucker for how things are packaged and illustrated).

I encourage you to consider this as a supplement to your history, Bible, or just for the fun of it.  You will not be sorry.

Family Honor Plate & Thyme Discussion Cards Review

My newest fun thing to do is at a place called the Funky Monkey.  I did my first, ever plate and I loved it.  To be able to hone in on that artistic side that I’ve pushed back for so many years was SO wonderful.  To create.  To look at it, displayed and see my favorite color, my favorite Bible verse…..brings me joy every single day.

This is why I jumped on this review.  In having 7 kids, it is hard to have one on one time with each one, daily…especially when you have 1 kid getting married, 1 finishing up college, 1 getting ready for college, 1 finding herself, 1 behaviorally challenged, 1 with hearing impairment, and 1 with OMS… days are filled with putting out little mini fires (figuratively and literally), trying to guide, plan, keep one from falling, and everything in between.  Plus….gotta throw in Big Daddy.

I’ll be honest, I have not had all my kids in a room where we can finish our plate, but when we do, it will be used exhaustively to celebrate any and everything possible.  I want to bring joy back around our table. and this is how we can celebrate.  I’m so excited about this.  My kids drew one of my tattoos.  It is of a daisy.  Each kid drew a petal and colored it in with their favorite color.  My artist added all the mistakes that were made when I told him he didn’t have too….he said these mistakes are what makes a family great.  So….I have some great ink with some awesome mistakes that make up my fantastic family.

I will most definitely be documenting, through pictures, next week, when I have everyone home.  Now, as for the Thyme Cards.  We use those ALL the THYME (get it LOL).  If I forget, a kid runs up to the mantle and grabs it and says “go, mom.”  We have laughed our tails off hearing all these answers to the questions that are presented.  The kids are learning about Big Daddy and I before we were “mom and dad” and we are learning about them and their oddities/joys/niches.  We, most always, eat around the table, but this brings fun to supper instead of stress.  When we have had long days, or when OMS flairs… can make dinner time stressful, sadly enough.  This takes the stress right out of it.

Talk to your kids.  Celebrate your kids.  Enjoy them.  This life is not a dress rehearsal for the “big event.”  It is a one time deal….live it up.

About the plate:
The virtues are listed in the center of the plate for mom and dad to use as their anchor, their moral compass to guide them in how they need to show up for and to their children. This is how our children learn what character (Christ’s Character) is, what it looks like, what it feels like. Our children are watching us and learning from us.

Look for the good choices and attitude your kids/spouse are making and showing throughout the day. Track it back to the virtues and character it shows.

Turn dinnertime into a celebration when you catch someone making good choices and showing good character and present their meal on the FAMILY HONOR PLATE. This is when you:
· Talk about the choices they made and the virtues and character that it showed (Be specific).
· Talk about how they made everyone involved feel and the impact they had on people and how that is POWERFUL and BEAUTIFUL.

About the cards:
Every question is followed up with “Why?” to take everyone’s answers to a deeper more intimate level. That’s where the magic is and the real conversation starts. So now when even a simple question such as…”What is your favorite dessert?” for example, rather than someone answering “Apple Pie” and then moving on to the next person, the whole family gets to walk down memory lane because it reminds them of Grandma Smith who always made apple pies with them when they came to visit.” Her house always smelled of fresh baked pies and she gave the best hugs when we walked in the door.”

Communication is the key to connecting, building and maintaining healthy relationships. When we are raise our children to be confident in their ability to communicate with others and get their point across, situations are less stressful and they have better outcomes.

Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women

When you have teen girls, in this day and age….it is hard.  H.A.R.D.  When you are faced, daily with magazines, commercials, billboards, television shows and movies that have the “perfect” girl on or in it…well…it is hard for one to live up to that “greatness.”  I mean, between the perfection of these girls and the boom of social media (which comes with it bullying, amongst other unsavory things)…..your daughter is destined to be at the bottom of the totem pole.

This is where this little gem comes in play.  At the end of the day, there is One Person we need to impress and the cool thing is….is you impressed Him the day He even thought you in existence.  He knew each human being, on this earth, before He even created the earth and YOU, you hormonal ball of knots and jello, are the cream of the crop.  You are at the top of the list and it is YOU that He adores.

This little devotional is not one that you will go through with your teen, just one time, it can be gone through year after year and still be pertinent to what you are dealing with whether it is the year 2017 or the year 2071.

I will be drawing a name on December 8, 2017 for a lucky person to win this incredible devotional.  Be sure and like or comment any of my social media accounts to be eligible to win 🙂

About the 365-day devotional:

Each day features an easy-to-read, relevant devotion paired with a scripture verse and journaling space to help readers reflect on the day’s message. About Kutless:

Since signing to BEC Recordings in 2001, Kutless has transformed from a new rock band to a staple artist in the industry that has multi-format, top-charting hits, sold millions of records and more than eight million streams. Launched by original members Jon Micah Sumrall (lead vocals) and guitarist James Mead, the band formed first as a modern rock/worship band at Warner Pacific College in Portland in 2000. Kutless has two RIAA Gold-selling albums for Strong Tower and Live from Portland. The band has had 12 No. 1 radio singles across all formats including their major hits “Strong Tower,” “What Faith Can Do” and “Carry Me To The Cross.”

After more than 15 years together and reaching fans around the world, Kutless continues to be focused on sharing the Gospel with a younger generation that is searching for answers.

“We really believe that music can make a difference in people’s lives,” shares Jon Micah Sumrall. “Music is an incredibly powerful tool that can break down walls and allow us to communicate a message of hope to people who may not listen otherwise. We are still recording and performing because we really do believe it makes a difference. We hear stories all the time from people who share with us how a concert or a song has radically impacted their life, and it’s these types of testimonies that keep us going year after year.”

In 2012, Kutless formed EOTA Ministries (End of The Age) to expand their evangelistic outreach around the globe. EOTA is the non-profit arm that aids Kutless in hosting large, free outreach concerts and events. In 2015, they partnered with other organizations to bring concerts to Kiev, Ukraine and other cities for six events – the largest of their kind in that country. The next year, Kutless returned to 11 cities in Ukraine as well as in Belarus, a communist country, where more than 100,000 heard the Gospel and over 40,000 commitments to Christ.

With their upcoming album ALPHA / OMEGA, Kutless has created a collection of rock and worship songs of both original and cover tracks that are true to who the band has been for the last 17 years. They wanted to create a project that would engage the Christian community and have the greatest impact. The songs are true to who the band is at their core – rock and worship. ALPHA / OMEGA features a new version of “Strong Tower” as well as the debut radio single “King of My Heart.”

Review: Let the Little Children Come

I am THOROUGHLY surprised at this little gem of a packet.  I did not originally set out to review it because I had enough on my plate…..then I thought……maybe this evangelism kit can someone help with Hunter, as he gets older.

I was really not sure the quality or what all was in this packet, but anything kid related to help my 3 yr old understand the power of what Jesus did on the cross…..for him….I figured I could handle 🙂

This packet comes in a sturdy plastic case that is easy for my little dude to carry around.  There is a plus, right there.  It is colorful and the outside leaflet is full of smiling kids or all races, countries, and genders.  Plus.  All of the items are for little hands to wag around.

The first 2 things I pulled out were these little pop up books.  SCORE.  The first one is “The Lost Easter Egg” and it threads through the Lost Sheep Parable found in the Bible.  We read that multiple times.  Now, the second one is what blows my mind.  The past several months (read years with some kids)…..we have a HUGE lying, stealing, and fighting issue that is exhausting.  I’ve tried spanking, taking things away, making them write Scripture, one daughter actually had to leave for a bit to pull herself together.  I’m so sick of the lying.  I’m sick of the stealing and I simply do not understand.  I do not know what more I can do.  This little pop up book, “The Most Amazing House,” I read to my baby while my boys (the culprits) were across the table doing schoolwork….pretending like they were not listening.

The book talks about our mansion in heaven, but due to sin in our lives, we cannot get to our mansion on our own accord because of sin “the bad things we do.”  Then I read this page “Sin is anything we do that makes God unhappy.  Telling lies, fighting, and stealing are examples of sins.  The punishment for our sins is that we can’t get to this amazing house.  But don’t worry.  There’s someone who can help.” **I bolded the words that I loved.**  I could see their eyes glancing up at me….almost in anxiousness to finish this little 4 page pop up book.

With this packet (apart from the pop up books), are 2 bracelets that share the salvation story.  One is a silicone bracelet with the different colors of the salvation story.  The other is one that you make, with the beads of the corresponding colors.  I will be reading the stories, again, to my boys and wearing the bracelets might be their reminder to think before they lie, steal, or fight.

Next up are 4 little animated tracts.  2 are about the verse John 3:16, 1 is the story of Christmas, and the last one is “Where’s Everybody Going.”  The pictures are a bit distorted, but that is purposeful.  There is a little plastic sheet cover to place over the distorted pictures and it makes the picture move.  Very cool.

There are also 2 little “FlipAbouts” that reminds me of a puzzle type thing.  You flip the two ends around until the pictures match and there is a reminder of God’s goodness on each one.

Lastly, there is a little plain booklet.  It has no writing on it and it has the basic salvation colors on it.  Yellow, Black, Red, White, and Green.  Yellow reminds us of heaven.  God loves us and wants us all to be with him in heaven. The black color reminds us of sin.  Because we have all sinned, we cannot be with God.  The red reminds us of the blood of Jesus.  Jesus took the punishment for our sins by dying on the cross.  The white color reminds us that we believe in Jesus, we will be made clean from sin.  We now can have a relationship with God and will one day be with him in heaven.  The green reminds us that it is important to grow in our relationship with Jesus.

Let The Little Children Come aims to provide effective gospel tracts and evangelism tools and resources for children.

It is the hope that these tools and resources will help you in conveying the powerful gospel message to children.

the gospel tracts are all specially designed to capture and hold the attention of children, while not distracting them from the core message of salvation through Jesus Christ.
