Family Honor Plate & Thyme Discussion Cards Review

My newest fun thing to do is at a place called the Funky Monkey.  I did my first, ever plate and I loved it.  To be able to hone in on that artistic side that I’ve pushed back for so many years was SO wonderful.  To create.  To look at it, displayed and see my favorite color, my favorite Bible verse…..brings me joy every single day.

This is why I jumped on this review.  In having 7 kids, it is hard to have one on one time with each one, daily…especially when you have 1 kid getting married, 1 finishing up college, 1 getting ready for college, 1 finding herself, 1 behaviorally challenged, 1 with hearing impairment, and 1 with OMS… days are filled with putting out little mini fires (figuratively and literally), trying to guide, plan, keep one from falling, and everything in between.  Plus….gotta throw in Big Daddy.

I’ll be honest, I have not had all my kids in a room where we can finish our plate, but when we do, it will be used exhaustively to celebrate any and everything possible.  I want to bring joy back around our table. and this is how we can celebrate.  I’m so excited about this.  My kids drew one of my tattoos.  It is of a daisy.  Each kid drew a petal and colored it in with their favorite color.  My artist added all the mistakes that were made when I told him he didn’t have too….he said these mistakes are what makes a family great.  So….I have some great ink with some awesome mistakes that make up my fantastic family.

I will most definitely be documenting, through pictures, next week, when I have everyone home.  Now, as for the Thyme Cards.  We use those ALL the THYME (get it LOL).  If I forget, a kid runs up to the mantle and grabs it and says “go, mom.”  We have laughed our tails off hearing all these answers to the questions that are presented.  The kids are learning about Big Daddy and I before we were “mom and dad” and we are learning about them and their oddities/joys/niches.  We, most always, eat around the table, but this brings fun to supper instead of stress.  When we have had long days, or when OMS flairs… can make dinner time stressful, sadly enough.  This takes the stress right out of it.

Talk to your kids.  Celebrate your kids.  Enjoy them.  This life is not a dress rehearsal for the “big event.”  It is a one time deal….live it up.

About the plate:
The virtues are listed in the center of the plate for mom and dad to use as their anchor, their moral compass to guide them in how they need to show up for and to their children. This is how our children learn what character (Christ’s Character) is, what it looks like, what it feels like. Our children are watching us and learning from us.

Look for the good choices and attitude your kids/spouse are making and showing throughout the day. Track it back to the virtues and character it shows.

Turn dinnertime into a celebration when you catch someone making good choices and showing good character and present their meal on the FAMILY HONOR PLATE. This is when you:
· Talk about the choices they made and the virtues and character that it showed (Be specific).
· Talk about how they made everyone involved feel and the impact they had on people and how that is POWERFUL and BEAUTIFUL.

About the cards:
Every question is followed up with “Why?” to take everyone’s answers to a deeper more intimate level. That’s where the magic is and the real conversation starts. So now when even a simple question such as…”What is your favorite dessert?” for example, rather than someone answering “Apple Pie” and then moving on to the next person, the whole family gets to walk down memory lane because it reminds them of Grandma Smith who always made apple pies with them when they came to visit.” Her house always smelled of fresh baked pies and she gave the best hugs when we walked in the door.”

Communication is the key to connecting, building and maintaining healthy relationships. When we are raise our children to be confident in their ability to communicate with others and get their point across, situations are less stressful and they have better outcomes.

Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women

When you have teen girls, in this day and age….it is hard.  H.A.R.D.  When you are faced, daily with magazines, commercials, billboards, television shows and movies that have the “perfect” girl on or in it…well…it is hard for one to live up to that “greatness.”  I mean, between the perfection of these girls and the boom of social media (which comes with it bullying, amongst other unsavory things)…..your daughter is destined to be at the bottom of the totem pole.

This is where this little gem comes in play.  At the end of the day, there is One Person we need to impress and the cool thing is….is you impressed Him the day He even thought you in existence.  He knew each human being, on this earth, before He even created the earth and YOU, you hormonal ball of knots and jello, are the cream of the crop.  You are at the top of the list and it is YOU that He adores.

This little devotional is not one that you will go through with your teen, just one time, it can be gone through year after year and still be pertinent to what you are dealing with whether it is the year 2017 or the year 2071.

I will be drawing a name on December 8, 2017 for a lucky person to win this incredible devotional.  Be sure and like or comment any of my social media accounts to be eligible to win 🙂

About the 365-day devotional:

Each day features an easy-to-read, relevant devotion paired with a scripture verse and journaling space to help readers reflect on the day’s message. The book tackles tough topics girls face, from bullying and social media to friendships and dating, all the while showing readers how infinitely precious they are in God’s sight.  This book is $14.99, for a hardcover, For ages 13 & up

About Kutless:

Since signing to BEC Recordings in 2001, Kutless has transformed from a new rock band to a staple artist in the industry that has multi-format, top-charting hits, sold millions of records and more than eight million streams. Launched by original members Jon Micah Sumrall (lead vocals) and guitarist James Mead, the band formed first as a modern rock/worship band at Warner Pacific College in Portland in 2000. Kutless has two RIAA Gold-selling albums for Strong Tower and Live from Portland. The band has had 12 No. 1 radio singles across all formats including their major hits “Strong Tower,” “What Faith Can Do” and “Carry Me To The Cross.”

After more than 15 years together and reaching fans around the world, Kutless continues to be focused on sharing the Gospel with a younger generation that is searching for answers.

“We really believe that music can make a difference in people’s lives,” shares Jon Micah Sumrall. “Music is an incredibly powerful tool that can break down walls and allow us to communicate a message of hope to people who may not listen otherwise. We are still recording and performing because we really do believe it makes a difference. We hear stories all the time from people who share with us how a concert or a song has radically impacted their life, and it’s these types of testimonies that keep us going year after year.”

In 2012, Kutless formed EOTA Ministries (End of The Age) to expand their evangelistic outreach around the globe. EOTA is the non-profit arm that aids Kutless in hosting large, free outreach concerts and events. In 2015, they partnered with other organizations to bring concerts to Kiev, Ukraine and other cities for six events – the largest of their kind in that country. The next year, Kutless returned to 11 cities in Ukraine as well as in Belarus, a communist country, where more than 100,000 heard the Gospel and over 40,000 commitments to Christ.

With their upcoming album ALPHA / OMEGA, Kutless has created a collection of rock and worship songs of both original and cover tracks that are true to who the band has been for the last 17 years. They wanted to create a project that would engage the Christian community and have the greatest impact. The songs are true to who the band is at their core – rock and worship. ALPHA / OMEGA features a new version of “Strong Tower” as well as the debut radio single “King of My Heart.”

Review: Let the Little Children Come

I am THOROUGHLY surprised at this little gem of a packet.  I did not originally set out to review it because I had enough on my plate…..then I thought……maybe this evangelism kit can someone help with Hunter, as he gets older.

I was really not sure the quality or what all was in this packet, but anything kid related to help my 3 yr old understand the power of what Jesus did on the cross…..for him….I figured I could handle 🙂

This packet comes in a sturdy plastic case that is easy for my little dude to carry around.  There is a plus, right there.  It is colorful and the outside leaflet is full of smiling kids or all races, countries, and genders.  Plus.  All of the items are for little hands to wag around.

The first 2 things I pulled out were these little pop up books.  SCORE.  The first one is “The Lost Easter Egg” and it threads through the Lost Sheep Parable found in the Bible.  We read that multiple times.  Now, the second one is what blows my mind.  The past several months (read years with some kids)…..we have a HUGE lying, stealing, and fighting issue that is exhausting.  I’ve tried spanking, taking things away, making them write Scripture, one daughter actually had to leave for a bit to pull herself together.  I’m so sick of the lying.  I’m sick of the stealing and I simply do not understand.  I do not know what more I can do.  This little pop up book, “The Most Amazing House,” I read to my baby while my boys (the culprits) were across the table doing schoolwork….pretending like they were not listening.

The book talks about our mansion in heaven, but due to sin in our lives, we cannot get to our mansion on our own accord because of sin “the bad things we do.”  Then I read this page “Sin is anything we do that makes God unhappy.  Telling lies, fighting, and stealing are examples of sins.  The punishment for our sins is that we can’t get to this amazing house.  But don’t worry.  There’s someone who can help.” **I bolded the words that I loved.**  I could see their eyes glancing up at me….almost in anxiousness to finish this little 4 page pop up book.

With this packet (apart from the pop up books), are 2 bracelets that share the salvation story.  One is a silicone bracelet with the different colors of the salvation story.  The other is one that you make, with the beads of the corresponding colors.  I will be reading the stories, again, to my boys and wearing the bracelets might be their reminder to think before they lie, steal, or fight.

Next up are 4 little animated tracts.  2 are about the verse John 3:16, 1 is the story of Christmas, and the last one is “Where’s Everybody Going.”  The pictures are a bit distorted, but that is purposeful.  There is a little plastic sheet cover to place over the distorted pictures and it makes the picture move.  Very cool.

There are also 2 little “FlipAbouts” that reminds me of a puzzle type thing.  You flip the two ends around until the pictures match and there is a reminder of God’s goodness on each one.

Lastly, there is a little plain booklet.  It has no writing on it and it has the basic salvation colors on it.  Yellow, Black, Red, White, and Green.  Yellow reminds us of heaven.  God loves us and wants us all to be with him in heaven. The black color reminds us of sin.  Because we have all sinned, we cannot be with God.  The red reminds us of the blood of Jesus.  Jesus took the punishment for our sins by dying on the cross.  The white color reminds us that we believe in Jesus, we will be made clean from sin.  We now can have a relationship with God and will one day be with him in heaven.  The green reminds us that it is important to grow in our relationship with Jesus.

Let The Little Children Come aims to provide effective gospel tracts and evangelism tools and resources for children.

It is the hope that these tools and resources will help you in conveying the powerful gospel message to children.

the gospel tracts are all specially designed to capture and hold the attention of children, while not distracting them from the core message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Review: The Star

First and foremost……stahppppppppp itttttttttttttt………This trailer…….for the love. My 3 yr old just jumped up in my lap and yelled “THIS IS GOING TO BE MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER!”  Then, we watched we watched all the trailers…..three times.  Okay, so he wanted to watch it twice…..I watched it three times.  There is no judgement. Adults need to sit and snicker while watching a donkey try to communicate to Mary and Joseph 🙂

I imagined, during the “whining” scene of the camels…..that those characters were created in the image of the writers children LOL.  I could see my kids acting that way cause they are tired, they are hot, they are thirsty.  I giggled.

This movie is going to be so cute and so easy to understand, from a child’s perspective.  I can see this movie being watched every Christmas, as part of our Christmas movie arsenal that we have.  To be honest, it will be watched outside of Christmas, as well.

I encourage all of you to gather your kids, gather your elderly, gather your pets and go and watch this movie!!!  It is coming out November 17, 2017.  This is not a giveaway, just a review….so sorry about that.

**If you want to see another review, by my friend Deanna….please click on THIS LINK and it will take you right there.  I’m so excited to take my kids to see this tomorrow.**

Hello.  My name is Brandi.  I have an addiction to Bibles.  I also love to color.  I also love to doodle while I listen to sermons.  I may or may not have a small addiction to these things.

Lucky for you, my addiction has yielded to an AWESOME giveaway of an Illuminated Journaling Bible.

Is it cool?

Uhm, heck to the yes.

Does my daughter want it?

Will she get it.

Not sure I like her that much LOL.

It is a hardback Bible with a value of $44.99.  It also comes in a heavy cardboard sleeve that matches the Bible.  It is not like those little flimsy ones that comes with other books.

This Bible is an ESV version.  I enjoy this version but some people may find it hard to understand and that is totally okay!  I did, too, when I first started using this version.  It is similar to NKJV, in my opinion.  Other opinions may differ.

There are wide margins giving room to create around your theme verses.  There are also several pages with preprinted large verses to color in, as well.

If you like Bibles, you like to journal, and you have a mustard seed of creativity, then this giveaway is for you.

I will be drawing a winner on October 29, 2017.  To be entered….please like or comment on any of my social media (you can find my social media accounts >>>>>>>on the right side bar).

If you do not win………..GO AND BUY IT!

Who’s Up for a Giveaway???

This giveaway was a bit delayed in getting to me… when I got my notice that I need to have my review done, I reached out to my person and I told her that I never received the CD…..when I got done emailing her, my husband nonchalantly said “hey, we did get that CD, I’ve been listening to it all week long.”

Tis my life.

This week, I’ve been recovering from surgery and I’ve not been on my game…at all.  I’m so thankful for the people who love my family well, to bring us food, send us well wishes, come watch my kids, and keep me occupied so I do not rehurt any part of my broken body.

So, this review comes courtesy of my sweet husband, Big Daddy.  He “really likes it because it has good upbeat songs that he can get behind.”  It is reaffirming what God spoke to him a few Sundays ago, in church.  To live out his faith, to be the man that God has called him to be and to get off the sidelines and be an active part of life instead of a lukewarm bystander………………..which means, he really like this CD 🙂  I’m anxious to hear it now!

Matthew wrote his new album All In with the goal of encouraging himself and others to get up off the sidelines of their faith and really live it out – to go all in in your time with God, all in with your family, all in with your community, and all in battling your fears that may hold you back from becoming who God made you to be. Along that same theme, Matthew will be launching a 6-week All in Challenge on his social media starting 9/18, and each week Matthew will be challenging his fans to go all in in a different part of their lives. What does it look like when a heart that knows Jesus takes a step and holds nothing back? How can we go All In in the places that mean the most?

In order to be eligible to win this giveaway, you must like this post or any of the other social media posts that I have about this.  You can find all my social media outlets >>> on the side bar.  I will be drawing on Friday, September 29, 2017.

Nichole Nordeman Review and Giveaway

Every Mile Mattered

With life getting in the way of …. well …. life …. it is nice to have a respite of sorts.  Music is my respite.  I’ve been making long long LONG drives to Louisville, more times than not.  My co-pilot is always wanting MORE music.  So, I play more music.  This has been on loop in my van.  When you go through life with a child who has OMS and the uncertainty of things…it is nice to be certain of one thing.

He is good ALL the time.  He is good on the days Hunter walks and He is good on the days Hunter cannot walk.  He is good when we are home.  He is good when we are getting chemo.

Take some time….enjoy your surroundings….listen to some music.  Let Christ soothe your soul.

I will be drawing a winner for this giveaway on July 26, 2017.  To enter, simply “like” or “comment” on this post or any social media post (you can find links to those on the sidebar to the right).

Review and Giveaway

I have struggled with depression for as far back as I can remember.  For the past 2 months, I have been taking up residence on the “struggle bus”.  It has been an epically difficult season for me.  I’m okay.  Then I’m not okay.  I “feel” and then I feel empty with an overwhelming dose of extreme sadness.  It sucks.  Not gonna lie.  No one can fix me, no matter how hard they try.  I have come to realize that Jesus is still in the valley with me and He is keeping my head above the waves….keeping me from drowning.  I’m so thankful for that knowledge, but I’m so tired of the struggle.
When the opportunity came up to review Mandisa’s CD “Out of the Dark”…I had no idea that she struggled with the things that I struggle with.  Mental illness is so taboo in our culture and no one wants to talk about it.  They do not want to admit that they have depression, bi-polar disorder, postpartum depression, or anything else for that matter.  People are dying because they do not feel okay enough to talk about this silent killer.  Please, for the love….reach out to someone.  A pastor, a friend, a spouse, a mentor, a counselor.  You are NOT ALONE.  There is help available.  The National Suicide Hotline is open 24/7 with people who are trained to help you and it is FREE!  Please call 800-273-8255.
This CD sort of hurt my feelings.  It sort of had me wallowing a bit…especially the first part where her friends are calling her leaving her encouraging voicemails. The sounds in their voices broke my heart but the knowledge of her deep sadness broke it even further.  This CD is about God’s sovereignty.  Recognizing the voice of God versus the thoughts of satan.  It is about seeing that pinpoint of light at the end of the tunnel and clawing your way back up with the help of a huge Jesus, medication, therapy, and friends.
This is a story of her village and how they lifted her up and pointed her to a Savior.  I wish I could give a copy of this to everyone I meet, but I can’t.  So, I will be drawing a name on May 29, 2017 🙂
MANDISA is back with a NEW CD “OUT OF THE DARK”.
Story Behind The Album:
Acoustic Video for “Unfinished”:
Purchase link:
Mandisa wrote her song “Overcomer” in 2013 to encourage her close friend Kisha, who was battling breast cancer. Mandisa really believed and prayed that God was going to heal her, but when Kisha went to be with Jesus in 2014, Mandisa’s foundation was shaken in a way she never expected. She fell into a deep pit of depression for close to 3 years, shutting out her friends, family and the rest of the world. Mandisa believes if she had kept going down that road she was on, she would not be here today… but God stepped in and lifted her out of that pit by using her close friends to communicate their love for her and God’s love for her. This album is Mandisa’s way of letting her fans into her story – it’s called ‘Out Of The Dark’ because that is exactly where God lifted her out of!
You can watch her talk openly about this on Good Morning America last week here:

Once Upon a Time Bible and Story Book Review

Oh.  My.  Goodness…..Seriously, people.  OH.  MY.  GOODNESS.
Can I just say that I might have hoarded these books so none of my kids could swipe them?  Let’s just pretend that I did not say that.  K?  K.
These books are ones that, yes, eventually I will let my kids see LOL, but I will not let them have when they leave.  First of all..I have a boatload of kids and there will be no fighting over these books.  Secondly, I have so many kids so I can, eventually, have grandkids and I want these books to be shared with them.  Like, let’s just pretend for a minute………I have 8 kids and if each kid had 8 kids, I would have 64 grands.  Now, let’s pretend that I could have a Lolly and Pop week o fun, at my house where everyone comes here and we have a camp type thing….and at the end of every night, Pop reads from these books…………..I can just see it now.
Sorry, I had a squirrel moment.  Right now, I am knee deep in raising these kids, so I’m totally in survival mode LOL.   This review is just that, a review.  There is no giveaway BUT these books can be purchased and should be purchased as quickly as possible!  They do not disappoint!
