Psalm 39 & Proverbs 8

Psalm 39 & Proverbs 8

Psalm 39 & Proverbs 8

Here is my daily interpretation of Psalm 39 & Proverbs 8.  I hope you are enjoying these snippets and keeping up with your reading.  Even if you miss a day, just pick back up where you are!

Psalm 39

I said to myself, “I will watch what I do
and not sin in what I say.
I will hold my tongue
when the ungodly are around me.”
But as I stood there in silence—
not even speaking of good things—
the turmoil within me grew worse.
The more I thought about it,
    the hotter I got,
    igniting a fire of words:

Thoughts

Let’s just settle on these 3 verses.  How many times have you had an argument, confrontation, or silently sucked up an issue?  Now, how many times have you sat in your car, at home, in church, dreamed about this event?  Then, how many times did you clean that person’s clock in your mind?

I do this on a daily basis.  Sadly, I’m still chewing on a “friend” just disappearing with no regards to our family.  Also, there is someone that chewed me out for zero reason that baffles me.  One time, a lady acted like I was the worst human on the planet because I had tapped her on the arm to get her attention.  My friend simply needed a drink of water and I was asking permission.

The thoughts and conversations that I have had over these instances are on a constant loop in my head.  What I should have said…how they would have retorted…how I would have had the last word.  So on and so forth.

Being silent is not an easy thing.

Section 2

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—
    how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
    My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.”

We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth,
not knowing who will spend it.

Thoughts

How humbling is this?  We go through life thinking we have all the time in the world.  All this time to do all the things, say all the things, forgive all the people, forgive yourself, make a name for yourself.  Then, you wake up and you are 50 and you have done nothing.

Who are you?  How do you define yourself right now?  Whatever you have been putting off, pray about it.  If it is in His will to rectify a situation, apologize, get a degree, live out a dream…do it!  Life is but a vapor.

Section 3

And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.
Rescue me from my rebellion.
Do not let fools mock me.
I am silent before you; I won’t say a word,
for my punishment is from you.
10 But please stop striking me!
I am exhausted by the blows from your hand.
11 When you discipline us for our sins,
you consume like a moth what is precious to us.
Each of us is but a breath.

12 Hear my prayer, O Lord!
Listen to my cries for help!
    Don’t ignore my tears.
For I am your guest—
    a traveler passing through,
as my ancestors were before me.
13 Leave me alone so I can smile again
before I am gone and exist no more.

Thoughts

My hope is in Him.  Period.  The end.

Proverbs 8

Listen as Wisdom calls out!
Hear as understanding raises her voice!
On the hilltop along the road,
she takes her stand at the crossroads.
By the gates at the entrance to the town,
on the road leading in, she cries aloud,
“I call to you, to all of you!
I raise my voice to all people.
You simple people, use good judgment.
You foolish people, show some understanding.

Section 2

Listen to me! For I have important things to tell you.
Everything I say is right,
for I speak the truth
and detest every kind of deception.
My advice is wholesome.
There is nothing devious or crooked in it.
My words are plain to anyone with understanding,
clear to those with knowledge.
10 Choose my instruction rather than silver,
and knowledge rather than pure gold.
11 For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies.
Nothing you desire can compare with it.

Section 3

12 “I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment.
I know where to discover knowledge and discernment.
13 All who fear the Lord will hate evil.
Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance,
corruption and perverse speech.
14 Common sense and success belong to me.
Insight and strength are mine.
15 Because of me, kings reign,
and rulers make just decrees.
16 Rulers lead with my help,
and nobles make righteous judgments.

Thoughts

Wisdom leads to good judgment leads to knowledge leads to discernment.  All things, as humans, that we want in life.

Section 4

17 “I love all who love me.
Those who search will surely find me.
18 I have riches and honor,
as well as enduring wealth and justice.
19 My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold,
my wages better than sterling silver!
20 I walk in righteousness,
in paths of justice.
21 Those who love me inherit wealth.
I will fill their treasuries.

Thoughts

Search…you will find.  Once found, be blessed with riches, honor, and justice.  He will bless you abundantly when you ask Him into your heart.

Section 5

22 “The Lord formed me from the beginning,
before he created anything else.
23 I was appointed in ages past,
at the very first, before the earth began.
24 I was born before the oceans were created,
before the springs bubbled forth their waters.
25 Before the mountains were formed,
before the hills, I was born—
26 before he had made the earth and fields
and the first handfuls of soil.
27 I was there when he established the heavens,
when he drew the horizon on the oceans.
28 I was there when he set the clouds above,
when he established springs deep in the earth.
29 I was there when he set the limits of the seas,
so they would not spread beyond their boundaries.
And when he marked off the earth’s foundations,
30 I was the architect at his side.
I was his constant delight,
rejoicing always in his presence.
31 And how happy I was with the world he created;
how I rejoiced with the human family!

Thoughts

I am in awe that He knew me…my beginning, middle, and end…before He created ANYTHING else!  Before the earth began, He formed me.  Can you even let your mind go there without completely exploding?  I think mine just exploded.

Section 6

32 “And so, my children, listen to me,
for all who follow my ways are joyful.
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise.
    Don’t ignore it.
34 Joyful are those who listen to me,
watching for me daily at my gates,
waiting for me outside my home!
35 For whoever finds me finds life
and receives favor from the Lord.
36 But those who miss me injure themselves.
All who hate me love death.”

Thoughts

This beautiful set of passages wrapped up in a salvation bow!  Wow.
