Priority #2

My Commitment to My Home and Family

Spouse and Children

Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

**What about those people who CHOOSE singleness?**

Psalm 127:3  “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord.  The fruit of the womb is a reward.”

**What about those couples who cannot have children?**

Ephesians 5:22, 25 “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.”  “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.”

**Does “submit” equal doormat?**

Ephesians 6:4 “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”

1 Timothy 3:2-5 “Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.  He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?”

1 Timothy 5:8 “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

1 Peter 3:7  “Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”

…and even to the extended family, as so beautifully portrayed in the relationship between Ruth and Naomi…

Ruth 1:16-17  “But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.  Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.”

The questions I stated earlier are ones that I will address in a future post.  I want to make sure I have prayed long and hard over it because I know that passions run high and I certainly do not ever want anything I say to be a stumbling block for someone else.  If you have an opinion, please feel free to share (note that hatefulness, bashing, intolerance will not be accepted).  I love hearing and learning about other faiths and their belief systems!
